Carnaby Airfield Memorial is a newly formed charity created to provide a fitting memorial and tourist information point at the previous Carnaby Airfield, now home to Carnaby Industrial Estate.

Carnaby Airfield was an imperative part of World War II as it was used as an emergency landing strip, burning 1000’s of gallons of fuel to disperse the fog in the air enabling safe landing of approx 1500 aircraft during the war.

Kate Dawson Manager of Old Mill’s pub in Carnaby the Ferns Farm Hotel asked the brewery if they would create a beer in recognition of the importance of the landing strip and F.I.D.O. was born!  Standing for Fog Investigation Dispersal Operation (the name given to the effective use of the airfield) Old Mill also agreed to donate 5p for every pint sold to the charity.  After a successful 9 months sales and a feature on the pumps at the Strangers Bar, House of Commons a total of £295.25 was raised and handed over recently at CAM’s monthly meeting.
